Phil

Say hello to Phil, our newest pilot. He grew up in New Plymouth before going to university and working in Christchurch for many years, before eventually settling in Taupo with his family.

Having recently semi-retired Phil was keen to join Cycling Without Age in Napier now he has more time on his hands. He is looking forward to meeting passengers from all walks of life and hearing their stories as they enjoy Napier together on our trishaws.

As a Civil Engineer specialising in Land Development for 20 years, he focussed on the Hawkes Bay and Taupo regions and as a keen mountain biker is regularly out riding trails in Taupo and Hawkes Bay. Phil has been an avid cyclist his whole life, and has enjoyed competing in BMX racing—having accumulated a range of trophies and medals along with a number of scars and broken bones!

In the past few years Phil and his wife have taken up bikepacking and they have enjoyed exploring remote parts of NZ, the Pacific Islands, Europe and the UK by bike, sometimes through tough terrain at which times he reminds himself that difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations!

Phil’s motto “No matter how slow you go; you are still lapping everyone on the couch” may need a small revision as we often call our triobike, “our couch on wheels”! – Welcome to the team Phil
